The Story behind Our Historic Chicago Hotel

The story of downtown Chicago hotel, The Palmer House Hilton is built on love. Gifted from groom Potter Palmer to his blushing bride, the Grand Chicago Hotel was destined to be one of the world’s most luxurious retreats.

Tragically, just 13 days after its grand opening, the Palmer House fell victim to the Great Chicago Fire. On November 8, 1873, the new Palmer House welcomed its first guests. The Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago has been the destination of choice for every U.S. President since Ulysses S. Grant, world leaders and dignitaries, celebrities and Chicago's movers-and-shakers.

The Palmer House Hilton Hotel is a proud member of Historic Hotels of America, National Trust for historic Preservation.
